An example of secular folk graphics. The woodcut with floral ornamentation was used for interior decoration. As Jerzy Kieszkowski explains, "The word 'quilt' comes from the Latin word cultra = covering, upholstery and the Italian: cortina = curtain and coltre (covering for a bed). Hence our "quilt", under which the people of Cracow until recently still understood "paper upholstery for the wall". Such upholstery with patterns imprinted, using woodcut technique, is a great rarity today" (J. Kieszkowski, Concise catalog of an exhibition of old folk woodcuts, Collected and published by Zygmunt Łazarski, Warsaw 1921, pp. 21-22).
