add Your note
Lot description

flat print/serigraphy, ink, washi paper (handmade), 44.5x32 cm, signed with the artist's seal (stamp)

Kojima Tokujiro (1912- 1996) is best known for his kimono and obi designs, but was also active as a printmaker. He also practiced stencil painting. As an example of "folk" art, the graphic manner of his imagery contrasts sharply with the more familiar style of Japanese ukiyo-e printmaking. The graphic is from a unique calendar designed by Kojima, printed on Japanese washi paper. There are no days of the week or month numbers in this calendar. It shows 12 months with representations of Japanese seasonal symbols and nature.
