Karol Wawrosz (1860, Zywiec - ?) - Polish painter and illustrator of the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. He was born into the family of a forester. Initially studied painting at the School of Fine Arts in Cracow. From 1879 he worked for Władysław Bartynowski as a draftsman. From April 18, 1888 he studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Munich in the painting class under Alexander von Liezen-Meyer (1839-1898). Illustrator of books (including B. Twardowski, Wojsko polskie Kościuszki, Poznań 1894, Bartynowski's Wizerunki królów, uzbrojenie i wojsko polskie and Materiały do ikonografii królów, armroi i wojska polskiego). Author of the drawings for E. Czapski's catalog of Polish numismatics.
Władysław Bartynowski (June 25, 1832 - December 16, 1918) inherited his father's passion for collecting. He continued and nurtured it throughout his life, and even created his own "school" of numismatics, even though he never held a university chair. Marian Gumowski and Feliks Kopera, among others, studied and gained practical knowledge in his studio. This is not surprising, as he was an "institution" in Krakow, known for his unique interests in books, numismatics and collecting. From an early age, he collected coins and medals, exchanged doubloons, bought new objects for his collection, and made galvanic copies with the method he invented for reproducing numismatic coins, commonly known as bartynotypy. The Archives of the National Museum in Cracow have collected numerous objects left by Wladyslaw Bartynowski, including workshop materials for planned publications on a projected dictionary of painters and engravers from ancient times to his contemporaries.
