Prominent Polish painter, between 1895-1910 director of the Cracow School of Fine Arts, which thanks to his efforts received the title of Academy (1900), member of the Berlin Academy of Art, member of the Society of Polish Artists "Sztuka", court painter of the hunting party of Wilhelm II. In 1869-1871 he was educated at the School of Fine Arts in Cracow, continued his studies at the Munich Academy under A. Strahuber and J.L. Raab. He traveled extensively (Italy, Spain, the Middle East, Ukraine, Zhmudia, Lithuania). In 1894-1896, together with Wojciech Kossak, he painted the panorama "The Passage of Napoleon I across the Berezina". In 1910 the artist settled in Bystra. From Bystra in 1920 he left for a short three-year stay in Toruń, where, in addition to views of the city, he fondly painted the Vistula River. In Toruń, he actively participated in the cultural life of the city and was the initiator of the establishment of the Artists' Fraternity in Toruń. From 1878 he took part in exhibitions at the Warsaw TZSP, where group exhibitions of his works also took place, in 1886 his group exhibition was held in Berlin, and in 1926 at the Kraków TPSP. The artist was an excellent watercolorist, he painted winter landscapes, hunting scenes, genre scenes, city views, much of his work is occupied by portraits - of family, friends, acquaintances.
