Jean-Michel Basquiat (1960-1988) - American contemporary artist. Initially engaged in graffiti, he later took up painting and was a representative of New Expressionism. His paintings were characterized by a combination of primitive African art, modern "street art", inscriptions, comic book elements and cultural archetypes.
