The featured engraving comes from "Galerie des modes et costumes français", a publication presenting an overview of 18th century French fashion. It is the first publication to present contemporary costumes to their creators, rather than historical costumes, which is why it is considered the first fashion jurnal. Jacques Esnault /Esnauts/ and Michel Rapilly published more than 400 engravings in 70 portfolios in less than a decade. Despite the large number of engravings, these beautiful hand-colored etchings are rarely found on the market.
