About the Artist:
Jaroslaw Jasnikowski - a leading Polish Surrealist painter, born in 1976 in Legnica. He has been painting since 1991. His first works were created in the science-fiction art trend, but in 1998, influenced by Wojtek Siudmak's exhibition in his hometown and a meeting with the artist himself, Jaśnikowski begins experimenting with surrealism. At that time his works are dark and psychedelic in nature, but more and more often Jaśnikowski's paintings begin to include references to technology; flying machines, steam engines or clockwork mechanisms, as well as his interest in Gothic architecture. In time, his painting takes on characteristics of steampunk. The artist's paintings become more and more consistent thematically, with Yasnikovsky creating a story of "Alternative Worlds" - a fantastic reality in which other laws of physics operate. For the purpose of his world, the artist creates huge surreal machines, which with their monumentality challenge the world, and at the same time are an expression of the hubris of their constructors. Time, and transience, as a factor inscribed in the world he creates, is also an important theme taken up by Jaśnikowski in his paintings. However, time in his paintings takes on different values and properties. It is not entirely linear, not entirely measurable, and often takes on material characteristics. Jaroslav Yasnikovsky, who is also interested in physics and astronomy, allows himself to freely manipulate the laws of science, creating it, as it were, from scratch. in his paintings there are also references to philosophy, theology, as well as history.
