"Polish painter, born in 1976 in Legnica. He has been painting since 1991. His first works are created in the science-fiction art trend, but in 1998, influenced by Wojtek Siudmak's exhibition in his hometown and a meeting with the artist himself, Jaśnikowski begins experimenting with surrealism. At that time his works are dark and psychedelic in nature, but more and more often Jaśnikowski's paintings start to include references to technology; flying machines, steam engines or clockwork mechanisms, as well as his interest in Gothic architecture. In time, his painting takes on characteristics of steampunk. The artist's paintings become more and more thematically coherent, Yasnikovsky creates a story of "Alternative Worlds" - a fantastic reality in which other laws of physics operate. He spins a tale of a world broken into millions of islands drifting in space, where the greatest sense of the people inhabiting this world is the need to travel. The artist creates huge surreal machines for his world, which with their monumentality challenge the world, and at the same time are an expression of the hubris of their constructors. Time, and the passing of time, as a factor inherent in the world he creates, is also an important theme taken up by Jaśnikowski in his paintings. However, time in his paintings takes on different values and properties. It is not entirely linear, not entirely measurable, and often takes on material characteristics. Jaroslaw Jaśnikowski, who is also interested in physics and astronomy, allows himself to freely manipulate the laws of science, creating it, as it were, from scratch. references to philosophy, theology, as well as history also appear in this artist's paintings.
Jasnikowski often says of himself that he is a Story-Maker, but he does not consider himself the creator of the world we can see on his canvases. The artist says that he only plays the role of observer and chronicler, and that his paintings are windows through which the viewer can look into another world - the Alternative World. Yasnikovsky believes that there can be an infinite number of such worlds, and exploring this one particular one is his greatest passion.
Jaroslaw Jasnikowski is a very popular and respected artist in Poland, as well as the best-known creator of Polish steampunk in painting. He has created a very recognizable style, and his paintings are characterized by excellent painting technique. The artist pays a lot of attention, to attention to detail, correct color combinations, and proper composition. Yasnikovsky has had a number of solo and group exhibitions, and his works are in collections around the world."
