Janina Kraupe, born January 27, 1921 in Sosnowiec. She began her artistic education in 1938 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow under the direction of doc Pawel Dadlez. In 1940-1941 she continued her studies at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Cracow under the direction of Franciszek Pautsch. In 1943-1944, she participated in Tadeusz Kantor's underground theater. In 1945, she resumed her education at the Krakow academy. She studied painting in the studios of Prof. Eugeniusz Eibisch and Prof. Waclaw Taranczewski, and artistic graphics in the studios of doc Andrzej Jurkiewicz and Prof. Konrad Srzednicki. She received her diploma at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow in 1948 and began teaching at her alma mater the same year. She received her diploma in easel painting in 1955 and became a full professor in 1987. In 1945, she became affiliated with the Group of Young Visual Artists. She co-founded the Cracow Group, to which she belonged since 1958. Since 1951, she has been a member of the Association of Polish Artists. She was involved in painting, printmaking and drawing. She passed away on March 3, 2016 in Cracow.
Janina Kraupe-Świderska's works are in numerous museums and private collections, including the National Museums in Krakow, Warsaw, Poznan, Wroclaw, Szczecin, the Art Museum in Lodz, as well as museums in Bochum, Dortmund, Dresden, Florence, Geneva, Kassel, Kiel, New York, Oxford, Saõ Paulo, Vienna, Zwickau.
