sketch (pencil on paper) 9.7 x 16 cm; size with frame: 39 x 45 cm; the work comes from the artist's sketchbook of 132 pages, from the period of Jacek Malczewski's education at St. Jacek's Gymnasium in Cracow (1871 - 1873), where he was listed as a painter in the student book as his vocation.
In his drawings, the artist focuses on capturing in a distinctive way the figures of rural grandparents, animals, and houses, which he draws with an economical line.
The work has a small format of 16 × 9,7 cm, numbered 79. The sketch is framed in a double passe-partout with slip finish, an ornate wooden frame and museum glass.
