The painting depicts Adela Bloch-Bauer (1881-1925), daughter of the CEO of Wiener Bankverein, Moritz Bauer, at the age of about 26. The original is an oil painting with silver foil and flake gold applied to the canvas, measuring 138 × 138 cm. It is currently in the Neue Galerie in New York.
