The offered portrait of the Marshal shows numerous parallels in the manner and pose of the portrayed to the work by J. K. Gumowski from 1916, depicting Jozef Pilsudski in the uniform of a commander. This work is currently in the collection of the National Museum in Cracow.
Jan Kanty Gumowski (1883-1946) - Polish painter and graphic artist. He studied at the School of Fine Arts in Cracow under Jozef Mehoffer. During the First World War he joined the Polish Legions. During the interwar period, he published several graphic volumes including "Jasna Góra" and the extremely popular "Cracow". During the Second World War he was a prisoner in the Auschwitz concentration camp. He died in 1946 in Cracow.
