GLIWA Stanislaw (1910-1986) - Finis. (two prints).
Linocut form. 9.6x7.9 cm. One print on silk glued to a sheet of stiff paper, the other on paper. Both signed and dated in pencil under the composition. Linocut depicts the posthumous profile of Marshal Jozef Pilsudski against a background of a crowned eagle. Slight folding of the print on the silk, otherwise good condition.
S. Gliwa (1910-1986) - artist-printer, graphic designer, illustrator, creator and owner of "Officina Typographica". A pupil of H. Uziembła and S. Szukalski, member of the Rogate Serce Strain; during the war a prisoner of Soviet gulags, later a soldier of the Anders Army. He graphically designed the 1st and 3rd volumes of M. Wańkowicz's work "Monte Cassino" (1945-1947), designed the emblem of the Literary Institute (Ionian column). In the 1950s he set up his own printing and bindery in Britain, and published low-volume bibliophilic prints often illustrated by himself.
