Lot description Show orginal version
lithograph, paper; 31x15cm (light framed).
Work made personally by the author on stone for a portfolio published by the Artistic and Literary Circle in Cracow in 1881, whose purpose was to raise funds for the reconstruction of the Croatian capital Zagreb, affected by the earthquake a year earlier.
The lithograph was made in1881 at Aureliusz Pruszyński's Artistic Lithography Workshop in Krakow, 17 Pijarska Street, founded in 1873. Many artists, including L. Wyczółkowski, were able to do their own graphic work here.
Aureliusz Pruszyński (1847-1904) was a Krakow lithographer, owner of the highly regarded Aureliusz Pruszyński Artistic Lithography Workshop in Krakow founded in 1873 at 17 Pijarska Street; from about 1902 his son Zenon Pruszyński owned the workshop (see SAP vol. 8 pp. 92-93). In the factory of A. Pruszyński, since the end of the 19th century, leading artists of Cracow reflected their graphic works in lithography (including posters), including the famous "Teka Melpomena".
