E.Kölwel was a painter and writer. He studied at the Academy in Karlsruhe and Munich. Since 1927 in Berlin. The inspiration for this work was the novel "Adventures of Sinbad the Sailor". The artist showed eight stories including the swallowing of a ship by a fish. The style of this work is reminiscent of some of Witkacy's works.
