The third novel, "The Day of the Tanker," is set in a public bathhouse in 1973. Tired old ladies are soaping each other's backs and discussing a tragic event that took place in the city on Tanker Day. The commander of communications, a lieutenant colonel in the Soviet Army, shot himself in the head in front of his young and beautiful wife, orphaning two children.
