Jan van Rymsdyk is the author of the illustrations for two important anatomical atlases published in London in the second half of the 18th century: "A Sett of Anatomical Tables" (1754) by William Smellie and "Anatomia Uteri Humani Gravidi Tabulis Illustrata" by William Hunter (1774). These publications were groundbreaking for science, and Smellie and Hunter are called the fathers of obstetrics. Superb in terms of scientific precision as well as artistic form, van Rymsdyk's designs served the subsequent editions of the atlases.
