Ilona Damięcka was one of the first women to graduate from the jazz piano faculty of the Jazz and Popular Music Department of the Music Academy in Katowice. The phenomenon and level of the Katowice academy is so widely known that it probably doesn't need to be brought closer to anyone.
We know not from today that the higher, less common art, and undoubtedly such is jazz, requires support. Without subsidies and people of good will, unique projects could not be created, uncompromising, emphasizing the virtuosity of the artists' skills. Not always finding a wide audience, and thus bringing adequate finances to self-finance the work of individual Artists.
Thanks to exceptional Artists, i.e. Jaroslaw Wierzbicki (a respected photographer, known for his many exhibitions and publications, e.g. in Jazz Forum), who donated his two works to our auction (the auction of Możdżer's photo took place in 2023) and the heroes of these photographs, who put their autographs on them, i.e.Thanks to the esteemed Jan Ptaszyn Wróblewski, or painter Iwona Szoka, we can offer you participation in the creation of fine art - the art of singer, pianist and composer Ilona Damięcka .
As we mentioned the entire amount of the nailed down item consisting of 3 items will be donated to the Artist, so that she can travel with her art around Poland and create.
Ilona Damięcka - Polish jazz pianist , vocalist and composer.
Graduate of the Jazz and Popular Music Department at the Music Academy in Katowice. One of the first pianists to graduate from the jazz piano at the local academy in the jazz piano class under Wojciech Niedziela. She is the winner of the Krzysztof Komeda composition competition in Slupsk in 1999 - third prize for her piece "Bossa for Bosa" to a text by Andrzej Schmidt.
Ilona Damięcka is a very versatile artist who, both as a pianist and vocalist, moves in the middle stream of jazz, including free jazz music. As someone wrote: "beautiful, talented, sensitive, with a warm tone of voice."
The music from the album "Hope" is illustrative music. Beginning with the first track , "The Sea," and ending with the vocal "Ten Four," the album is mostly filled with minimalism and subtle warm sound. There are also compositions inspired by Jewish music.
The album also features a tribute to the great master Tomasz Stanko and one composition Ilona Damięcka dedicates to him.
From an early age, she developed under the tutelage of Wojciech Niedziela, with whom she gained knowledge of harmony and improvisation, as well as jazz styles. She participated in jazz workshops in Puławy and Chodzież, where such pianists as Kuba Stankiewicz, Artur Dutkiewicz, Wojciech Niedziela and Bogdan Holownia gave lectures.
At the end of her studies, she moved to Cracow. There, for a period of two years, she worked with the outstanding saxophonist Janusz Muniak, from whom she learned band work. She collaborated with Krakow's jazz musician community, including New Bone. After two years, she changed her place of residence and moved to the Tricity, where she began to work with local musicians.
Ilona Damięcka has five albums in her artistic output, including two of her own . "Hurry up" - Siloe Records, "Fifth Side"- Siloe Records, "Monk's Midnight" - Hevhetia, "Polish Songs vol. 1" - Tomasz Licak Music .
August 2020 saw the release of the artist's second original album , this time recorded in a trio with Paweł Urowski and Krzysztof Szmańda released by Soliton label. Ilona Damięcka has worked with some of the most outstanding Polish musicians such as Janusz Muniak, Andrzej Cudzich, Maciej Sikla, Piotr Wojtasik, Jan Ptaszyn Wróblewski, Jerzy Małek, Henryk Miśkiewicz, Marcin Pospieszalski, Przemek Dyakowski, Ewa Uryga, Natalia Niemen, Mieczysław Szcześniak, Eric Allen, Francesca Bertazzo Hart, Helga Plankensteiner, Tomasz Licak, and with many other greats, the list is very long.
