Biography
Cartoonist, illustrator and graphic artist, author of comic books and books, screenwriter, designer of puppets and decorations for puppet theaters. In 1955, he graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in the studio of Jan Marcin Szancer, and in that year began his artistic career as an art editor at the Nasza Księgarnia publishing house. He cooperated with many publishers and magazines for children and young people - "Miś", "Płomyczek", "Płomyk", "Świerszczyk". His illustrations have appeared in more than 250 books, as well as in "Swiat Młodych". He is the creator of well-known comic characters - Gapiszon and Kwapiszon of his own creation, as well as Gucio and Caesar. Gapiszon is one of the most famous Polish comic characters, which has also lived to see a film adaptation. In Poland, Butenko's studies have repeatedly won the title of Most Beautiful Book of the Year awarded by the Polish Society of Book Publishers and the title of Book of the Year. He has been awarded the Officer's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta and the Order of the Smile.
