Polish nobleman; Rider.
2 Etchings. (Mid-17th c.) Dimensions: 4.6 x 6 cm; 5.5 x 8 cm (in frame behind glass: 30 x 15 cm).
The upper engraving on display depicts the head of a bust of a nobleman in characteristic Polish attire, including headgear - a cap with feathers. The lower print shows a rider on horseback. Stefano della Bella, a native of Florence, an accomplished painter and engraver, was interested in graphic art from a young age. His association with the patronage of the Grand Dukes of Tuscany, as well as his connections to the French court, influenced the engraver's European career. Among his numerous works, he created one of the finest 17th-century graphic polonics, the Entrance of Jerzy Ossolinski to Rome. Graphics cut out and spot pasted on the ground, traces of non-bronzing.
