Polish nobleman.
Etching. (Mid-17th century) Plate print: 10.5 x 9 cm (in frame behind glass: 30.5 x 25.5 cm).
The featured print depicts the head of a nobleman in a distinctive Polish headdress - a cap with feathers. Stefano della Bella, a native of Florence, an accomplished painter and engraver, was interested in graphic art from his youth. His association with the patronage of the Grand Dukes of Tuscany, as well as his connections with the French court, influenced the engraver's European career. Among his many works, he created one of the finest 17th-century graphic polonics, the Entrance of Jerzy Ossolinski to Rome. Slight loss of lower left corner.
