Banksy created a series of prints depicting supermodel Kate Moss as a pop culture icon in a style inspired by Andy Warhol's portrait of Marilyn Monroe. In one of these works, titled "Dirty Funker - Let's Get Dirty," Banksy combined Kate Moss' image with Warhol's aesthetic, butalsoaddeda contemporary twist, including lettering and street art elements characteristic of hiswork.
The work, "Dirty Funker - Let's Get Dirty," waspart of a collaboration with a musician and DJperformingunder the pseudonym Dirty Funker, whooften uses pop culture and graffiti motifs in his music and visual projects. In this version of the work, Banksyusedcontrastingcolors and a simplelayout toattractattention andemphasize a somewhat provocative message. The caption "Let's Get Dirty" incorporated into thecomposition gives it an even more rebellious feel, whileevokingassociations with club atmosphere, youth and an unconventional lifestyle.
The image is unique because it not only criticizes the way celebrities are used as symbols of consumption and glitz, butalso refers to the counterculture ofwhich Banksy and Dirty Funkerarea part.
