Buddhist woodcut on rice paper of an educational nature, illustrating the so-called "Wheel of Life" held by the ruler of death, Yama.

Artifact in very good state of preservation, framed behind glass in passe-partout and frame. Minor discoloration and surface soiling of the paper visible.

Wheel of Life, the so-called Kala Chakra. It is dedicated to all living beings who have not yet reached the first degree of spiritual liberation. The wheel illustrates the essence of Buddhist teaching, the four paths of truth, the existence of earthly suffering, its origin and cause, and shows the path of deliverance. It describes the cause of all evil and its effects experienced by man from birth to death. However, everyone is responsible for their deeds and their effects.
