"Being good at business is the most interesting form of art," this famous phrase by Warhol captures his fascination with the commercial aspects of life.
Dollars, as a symbol of wealth, success and consumption, were a perfect fit for his artistic vision. Warhol recognized that money was not only a medium of exchange, but also an iconic symbol that influenced the mass imagination. In his work, dollars become more than just currency - they are a metaphor for modern society. The money and its iconic image were a natural extension of his earlier works, which explored other consumer products, such as Campbell's soup cans and Coca-Cola bottles.
In his "Dollar Sign" compositions, Warhol used a variety of techniques, such as screen printing, to create repeated images of the dollar symbol in different colors and sizes. His approach to this motif was similar to his other works. The "Dollars" series is part of the broader context of Pop Art, which aimed to blur the boundaries between high and low art, and between art and everyday life. Warhol, like other Pop Art artists, drew inspiration from the reality around him, transforming everyday objects into works of art.
T.P. (Trial Proofs) - works marked TP originally had a similar use to Hors d'Commerce. TP-marked prints can also be different in color from the entire edition - this type of work is mainly found in Andy Warhol, who added TP-marked works to published editions. It should be noted that these prints were significantly different from the rest, as different color variations were usually used - especially the background and main motif - distinguishing them from the whole edition. The TP designation can be used with or without a number. Example TP or TP 1/50 or TP I / L.
