Swiss sculptor and painter, active in France. He was considered one of the pioneers of modernist sculpture on the borderline between expressionism and surrealism. The main theme he tackled was the representation of people in their existential suffering. His sculptures are monumental in form surrealist works, characterized by a significant reduction in the volume of material in favor of free space. Since the late 1940s, a striking feature of the artist's sculptures was their slenderness, kineticism, and rough texture.
In 1950, he signed a contract with Galerie Maeght in Paris, through which he received commissions for bronze sculptures. A collection of his works was later included in the Maeght Foundation museum in Saint-Paul-de-Vence, which opened in 1964.
