[HERBERT Zbigniew]. Postcard with handwritten correspondence from Zbigniew Herbert to Zdzislaw Najder in Warsaw, dated. 7 XI 1976 in Berlin.
Colorful postcard with an image of a 15th century sculpture depicting the beheading of St. Catherine. The poet sends name-birthday wishes: "health and all the graces that will not be spared [!] by those Gods of Gracia to whom I pray". Signature: "Zbigniew." Below is a note from Herbert's wife, Catherine, joining in the wishes. And even lower is Herbert's brief commentary on the scene on the reverse: "The executioner's axe hangs in the air. But the head still on the neck." Very good condition.
Z. Herbert (1924-1998) - poet, essayist, playwright, author of radio plays, serious contender for the Nobel Prize in Literature. Knight of the Order of the White Eagle. Contrary to what we read in "Who's Who in Poland" (War. 1989), he was not a recipient of the International Lenin Prize.
