MŁODOŻENIEC Jan (1929 - 2000) - Polish graphic artist, painter. One of the most prominent representatives of the Polish school of poster art. Author of more than 400 posters, book covers, illustrations, drawings. From 1948 to 1955 he studied graphic design and poster art at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw in the studio of Prof. Henryk Tomaszewski. He designed movie posters for "Once upon a time in America," "The Godfather," "The Great Gatsby," among others. He participated in many poster exhibitions in Poland and abroad. Winner of numerous awards, including: Minister of Culture and Art for his work in the field of posters (1969), silver medal at the Biennale of Polish Posters in Katowice (1971), silver medal at the IBA in Leipzig (1965 and 1985), Award of the Polish Society of Book Publishers for outstanding achievements in shaping the graphic design of books (1978), Awards of the Year in the competition for the Best Poster of Warsaw (1965,1966,1970,1972,1973,1979,1981,1983,1985,1989), 1st prize at the Poster Biennale in Lahti (1983). His works are in museum collections including: Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, Kunstbibliothek in Berlin, Bibliotheque Forney in Paris, Museum of Modern Art in Toyama and Museum of Modern Art in New York. He was buried in the Alley of the Distinguished at Powązki Cemetery in Warsaw.
