Waldemar Swierzy (1931-2013) - co-founder of the Polish School of Posters and professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Poznań and Warsaw. He is a graphic designer, illustrator and poster artist, as well as a creator of applied art. He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow in 1952: painting under the tutelage of Professor Rafał Pomorski, and graphic design under Professor Józef Mroszczak. His lectures could be heard by students at the Universities of Havana, Mexico and West Berlin. He was one of the most prominent Polish poster artists, having created more than one and a half thousand of them. Most of them are theater, film, music and circus posters, but the content of some of them is also social themes. Swierzy has been the recipient of many Polish and foreign awards, including. Grand Prix Toulouse-Lautrec in the 1st International Exhibition of Film Posters in Versailles, the Prix of the 10th Biennale de Sao Paulo or the "Hollywood Reporter" Film Poster Competition in Los Angeles.
