ŚWIERZY Waldemar (1931 - 2013) - outstanding Polish graphic artist, poster designer. Co-founder of the Polish School of Posters, professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Poznan and Warsaw. He studied in 1947-52 in Cracow. He studied painting with Prof. Rafał Pomorski, graphic design with Prof. Józef Mroszczak. In 1959, he received the Toulouse-Lautrec Grand Prix at the 1st International Exhibition of Film Posters in Versailles for his poster "The Red Inn," and in 1962, at the same exhibition, he won third prize for his poster "Two Floors of Happiness." In 1970, he was awarded the First Prix of the 10th Biennale de São Paulo. In 1975 and 1985, he won first prize at the Hollywood Reporter's Film Poster Competition in Los Angeles ("Promised Land" - " Dogs of War"). Between 2003 and 2013, he painted the so-called "New Post of the Rulers of Poland. He completed his last portrait a few days before his death. He was awarded the Gold Medal for Merit to Culture "Gloria Artis". He was buried in the Alley of the Distinguished at the Powązki Military Cemetery in Warsaw.
