Afisz. To the Jewish population of the city of Lviv! 23.11.1918.

A poster-sized notice written in Polish and printed in 1918 warning the Jewish population of Lviv against an attack on the Polish authorities and army. The poster reads: "To the Jewish population of the city of Lviv! During the three weeks of fighting and Lvov, a significant part of the Jewish population not only did not maintain neutrality towards the Polish army, but often resisted it with weapons in hand , and treacherously tried to stop the victorious march of our troops.Cases of shooting at our soldiers from ambush, yawning at them with boiling acrof, throwing axes at patrols, etc. Headquarters of the Polish Army restrains the natural fear of the Polish people and the military. All citizens, regardless of religion, were placed under the protection of the law. Accordingly, a decree on courts and summary punishment was issued. Nevertheless, Jewish Indians in general have a serious obligation to restrain some co-religionists who continue to behave as if they want to bring incalculable disaster to Jewish Indians in general. The command of the Polish army hopes that the Jewish population of Lvov, first and foremost in their own interest, so that their co-experts will not hate Polish rule, and by proper and loyal behavior will enable the authorities and the rest of society to introduce and maintain rule based on law. Lviv, November 23, 1918. Municipal and district command".

One-sided print in Polish. Printed in the printing house of Wł. Łoziński.

Format:49x32,5cm.

"Well, I, after reading all the things that are available: the memoirs of the Defenders of Lviv, the memoirs of General Roja, who was the commander of the relief of Lviv, and other memoirs, have not the slightest doubt that the responsibility for the pogrom lies with Mączyński.

My thesis agrees with what I found in the memoirs of Maciej Rataj, a peasant prominent politician born near Lviv:

"I saw Mr. Mączyński driving his car through the market square and smiling indulgently at the sight of the scenes I mentioned. I cannot forget and give him that day and that smile!". Rataj saw Mączyński on November 22 watching the pogrom.

Mączyński lies in the main place in the Defenders of Lviv cemetery. This is the man who, on the first day of the pogrom, watched with satisfaction what was happening in the market square. The robbery of Jewish stores and the abuse of Jews. And having received an order from General Roja to immediately introduce summary courts he did not carry out this order. He did nothing to stop the pogrom.

It was only on the second day of the pogrom in the evening that he issued the decision to introduce summary courts, but he did not distribute it until the third day, that is, November 24 in the morning.

On the second day of the pogrom in the morning, he issued and posted in Lviv his own proclamation to the Jewish population, which was really addressed to the Poles and called for the pogrom to continue! He accused the Jews of fighting on the side of the Ukrainians, of throwing axes, pouring boiling water on the Polish soldiers, and so on. And he claimed that what was happening was the rightful reflex of the Polish population.

Mączyński, a complacent provincial teacher, an inferior officer in the Austrian army, was made into a great Polish commander, because the National Democrats (National Democracy) needed a hero to start playing against Pilsudski."
