Biography
. Died in 2008, Kajko and Kokosz - his most famous characters were created in his imagination more than 40 years ago, but this was not his first comic book. He debuted in 1957 with "Tales of Armstrong" for Jazz magazine. In turn, from the following year, he became associated for many years with the Tri-City newspaper "Evening of the Coast". There he published, among other things, the longest Polish series, consisting of 1270 episodes. Its heroes were, traveling through space, Kajtek and Koko (since 1972 changed into Slavic warriors: Kajek and Kokosz). It is to this day, next to" Titus, Romek and A'Tomek" by Papć Chmiel, the most popular Polish comic book. This story, printed most often in the scouting newspaper "Świat Młodych", has lived to see a huge number of revivals. Since the 1990s, the author created less and less, to finally stop. He was forced to do so by health reasons, including eye problems. On May 31, 2007 Janusz Christa was awarded the Gloria Artis medal. He died a dozen months later. The exhibition at the Central Museum of Textiles in Lodz during the 22nd International Comics Festival featured his original works (boards, sketches, notebooks) and an office arranged by curator Wojciech Łowicki with authentic furniture, books, memorabilia, as well as a desk and drawing instruments. Currently, the originals are on display during exhibitions of the series "Four Seasons with Satire and Comics" ("Kajko and Kokosz - the Bravest Voyages of Mirmil" and "Kajko and Kokosz Teach Archaeology"). Under the patronage of Paulina Christy, the artist's granddaughter, the Janusz Christy Foundation "Kreska" was established in Sopot in 2014. At the festival of Popular Culture DwuTakt in Torun in 2014-18, the Golden Cup - the Janusz Christy award for special achievements in the field of popularization of comics - was awarded.
