[UJEJSKI Kornel - portrait photograph - shot in card de visite format]. [not after 1865]. Photograph form. 9x5.8 cm on original backing form. 10.4x6.1 cm, taken at the Bernhard Brand and Joseph Eder workshop in Lviv.
Portrait of the sitter is shown in 3/4 figure, in profile, with beard and mustache. He is seated at a table with books. In the lower left corner of the backing print: "B. Brand & J. Eder.", in the center a pencil inscription: "Kornel Ujejski". Photo pasted on original cardboard backing. On the back, an advertising vignette of the establishment in gilt, printed in German and Polish: "Bernhard Brand and Josef Eder's painting and photography establishment Hotel Angielski in Lviv" and a handwritten pencil inscription: "Kornel Ujejski". Good condition.
K. Ujejski (1823-1897) - cousin of Kalikst; poet, publicist, deputy to the Council of State in Vienna. Participant in the events of 1846; in 1848 in the Lviv Academic Legion. Member of the Lviv Bench and the Committee of Fraternal Aid; editor of the secret "Pravda"; head of the insurrectionary censorship in Lviv. (Biography after: L. Machnik - "Photographs of January insurgents in the collection of the Ossoliński National Institute. Catalog". Wr. 2002, p. 197).
B. Brand - Lviv photographer since about 1860. Periodically (in 1861-1865) he cooperated with Jozef Eder by running a "painting and photography establishment" in the Lviv Hotel English on Karl Ludwig Street.
J. Eder (1831-1903) - Lviv photographer, owner of an establishment at the English Hotel from 1861 to 1888. He ran branches in Stanislawow, Jassy, Kolomyia, Zakopane.
