Photograph of Priest Jan Lewinsky ("Jan Lewinsky, the legendary priest from Vinnitsa who received Marshal Pilsudski") :
Biography Quote :
" Fearing repression due to his patriotic activities, Jan Lewinski first saved himself by fleeing to Poland in June 1920. However, he returned to his parishioners on December 8 of the same year. He was a support not only for the laity, but also for priests, who faced a campaign to persuade them to abandon their faith. Repeatedly interrogated and arrested, in 1930 he was charged with counter-revolutionary activities and sentenced to be shot. This sentence was changed to 10 years in the camps. He survived by exchanging convicts for communist spies and returned to Poland.
