Photo from circa 1945 showing the damage sustained by the Adam Mickiewicz monument in Warsaw located on Krakowskie Przedmieście Street as a result of the war effort.
The monument, designed by Cyprian Godebski, was unveiled on the centenary of the poet's birth on December 24, 1898.
In 1944 the monument was dismantled by the Germans and taken to the Reich, where after the war a Polish military mission in Hamburg found and revindicated, among other things, the head and a fragment of the torso. A copy of the cast was made by Jan Szczepkowski with the cooperation of Jozef Trenarowski. The casting was made by the Lopienski Brothers company.
