Photographic reproduction of a portrait from a woodcut. Portrayed person shown in bust. In the lower part of the composition facsimile of the autograph with the sentence: "Truth a work d. May 12, 1865 JIKraszewski". Photo pasted on original cardboard backing. On the back stamp: "From the collection of Jan Sas Zubrzycki". Very good condition.
J. I. Kraszewski (1812-1887) - writer, columnist, literary critic, publisher, painter, etcher, historian, socio-political activist, imprisoned in 1883-1885 by German authorities for collaboration with French intelligence. Author of the largest number of published books and poems in the history of Polish literature (approximately: more than 200 novels, about 150 novellas, short stories and pictures, about 20 plays, hundreds of historical works, several volumes of travel accounts, poetry, translations, editions of historical sources).
