View of a fragment of the Cloth Hall and the city hall tower still with the old city hall brazier. In the background one can see the Potocki Palace "Under the Rams". Photo pasted on original cardboard backing. On the left margin overprint: "W. Maliszewski in Cracow". On the reverse side print: "Photographed by W. Maliszewski in Cracow" and pencil inscription: "before 1880". Very good condition. Infrequent.
W. Maliszewski (1836-1885) - daguerreotypist, professional photographer active in Cracow between 1848 and 1880. He ran a daguerreotype workshop at 430 Maly Rynek, later converted to a photographic workshop. Then in 1856 he opened an establishment at St. Joseph Street, 3rd floor, then Nowy Świat No. 166 (Straszewskiego Street 9). From about 1870 to 1872 he ran the establishment at 432 Small Market Street together with M. Rzymkowski. He was the first permanent daguerreotypist and photographer in Cracow. He was the author of seven photographs of the Main Square that have unique cognitive value. He took stereoscopic photographs, published thematic sets of architectural photographs, photographic calendars for the years 1867-1868 with views of the city, monuments, as well as actor photographs.
