John Paul II's fourth apostolic journey to Turkey took place from November 28 - 30, 1979. The pilgrimage lasted 60 hours. The Pope traveled about 3,800 kilometers and made 12 official speeches. The main purpose of the visit was ecumenical dialogue with the Constantinopolitan Patriarchate and leading a delegation of the Roman Catholic Church to the Feast of St. Andrew at St. George's Cathedral in Istanbul.
