Polish Gymnastic Society "Sokol" - the oldest Polish sports society still active today. Founded on February 7, 1867 in Lviv. It was the first outside Lviv to establish nests - branches in Tarnow and Stanislawow in 1884. The Society was also active after the restoration of independence and in the interwar period. In 1892 a unified organization called the "Union of Polish Falcons" was established, with headquarters in Lviv. Other branches began to open in Inowrocław (1884), Poznan, Bydgoszcz (1886), the Congress Kingdom, the Borderlands, Russia and Malopolska (after 1905). After the Grunwald Rally, falcon-military teams were formed and scout organizations were patronized.
