Portrayed portrayed in full figure, seated on a chair, dressed in uniform, saber at his side. Photo glued on original cardboard backing. On the back an advertising vignette printed: "Photographed at J. V. Cobb's. High Street. Hythe and Sandgate" and an identifying inscription in ink: "Stanislas Żaba ---" and in pencil: "--- 1838-1919 born in London. Son of Napoleon Felix Zaba". Very good condition.
"In 1830 N. F. Frog married Scottish noblewoman Anna MacLeod (1803-1863), daughter of Lt. John MacLeod and Joan Paton. Anna and Napoleon had one son Stanislaw (1838-1919). Stanislaw Frog was educated in England and France. He studied agriculture in Tarant, and in 1854 his father customarily bought him the rank of second lieutenant of an English East-Kent regiment, as a result of which Frog served in the Crimea, Malta and Gibraltar, among other places. In 1862, at the invitation of Count Jan Stadnicki of Wielka Wieś, he came to Galicia, where he married Maria Ewa hr. Moszczeńska, coat of arms Nałęcz (1840-1916) and settled in Zbylitowska Góra, which belonged to the Moszczeński family. Stanislaw and Maria had five children: daughters Celina (1865-1961) and twins Maria (1866-1959) and Julia (1866-1940), and sons Roman (1864-1945), Franciszek (1868-1942) and Borys (1880-1950). Stanislaw, having left the English army in 1863, took up the management of the landed estate. He also initiated the establishment in Tarnow of a branch of the Cracow Galician Bank for the Development of Trade and Industry, and in 1887-1891 he was a member of the audit committee of the Land Credit Society in Lvov. In 1877 he moved to Paris, where, together with Stanislaw Julius Count Ostrorog, he developed a chain of photographic establishments under the name "Walery." In 1883 they jointly opened photographic studios in London. S. Frog belonged to numerous English clubs."
