Photo reportage from the bodybuilding competition for the Silesian Land Cup. 1960's. Visible in the photos is the legend of Polish bodybuilding - Witold Majchrzak [in tracksuit]: born 30.11.1917 in Berlin. In 1936-1939 he was Pomeranian champion in weightlifting and wrestling, and in 1938 he was Polish champion in wrestling at light-heavyweight. He was the last living athlete to continue the traditions of legendary strongmen - Wladyslaw Pytlasinski, brothers Stanislaw and Wladyslaw Cyganiewicz. In September 1939, as a corporal of the 8th Armored Battalion from Artillery Street, he stood in defense of his homeland. Together with the crew of his tank, he was interned in Kozielsk. However, due to his place of birth, he was handed over to the Germans. He returned to Bydgoszcz. He was ordered to work at an armaments factory in Lęgnow. Two years later, he fought several battles with a 300-kilogram bear. After the war, from 1956 he took up bodybuilding, which became extremely popular in Poland. In 1963, he founded a bodybuilding section in Bydgoszcz, while three years later he established the TKKF "Kulturysta" campfire. In 1974, as the only Pole, Witold Majchrzak took part in the competition for the title of Mister Universum in Verona, Italy. He was 57 years old at the time and was the oldest competitor. For his activities Witold Majchrzak in 1984 received the highest bodybuilding honor- the IFBB President's Honorary Gold Medal. He passed away in 2009.
