A huge breakthrough for Polish Shipping, throughout its more than 70-year history, was the year 1966. At that time, the Szczecin shipowner took delivery from Italian shipyards in Trieste and San Marco of a series of ultra-modern - for those years - ships designed by the Cetena design bureau. They had a carrying capacity of 24 tons and were the largest ships in the PŻM fleet at the time. They were christened with the names "lands," the first being, of course, the "Szczecin Land." Purchased through Centromor, they stood in the shipyard ready and unsuccessfully sought a buyer. The Cantieri shipyard in Trieste was in a serious crisis at the time, and PŻM was supposed to save it from bankruptcy (in the end it didn't, but the plant has survived to this day and is now part of the Fincantieri group). For the Szczecin shipowner, these ships represented a true technological revolution. Indeed, thanks to their considerable range, they were able to make round-the-world voyages.
