Biography
He is a painter by training, but already during his studies he became interested in performance art, to which he remained faithful for the following years, so that after 2000 he expanded his field of activity to include video works, photographs, documentations, and eventually objects and installations. All his works are post-conceptual in nature and are maintained in a slightly grotesque, ironic and even absurd aura. Dawicki combines in his art a romantic-tragic component, strongly saturated with his own existential dilemmas, with the poetics and critical dimension of conceptual art. Self-reflection on his own institutional status as a contemporary artist is closely intertwined with reflection on his own identity, or rather on its transience, conventionality, ethereality, weakness. Discomfort, misunderstanding, complication - these are the notions on which the artist's imagination is supported, while the unproductivity of art seems to be for Dawicki its most promising dimension.
