Juliusz Joniak, following in the footsteps of the Capists, introduced still life into the basic repertoire of painting subjects, while each of his works remains unique in its composition, color and climate. The artist uses an established set of props - such as white jugs, bottles of dyed glass, fabrics with decorative patterns and vivid colors, fruits arranged on bowls - to create unique combinations of them.
Prof. Stanislaw Rodzinski wrote: I believe that Juliusz Joniak sets up still life to challenge it to a duel. At some point, fruits, objects, flowers or drapery, viewed in nature, begin to lead a completely autonomous life on canvas. In "Still Life with Fan" the artist also reveals his fascination with Spain, where he has traveled many times, while the fan depicted in the composition is still in the artist's home today.
