"Knowledge of the countryside, the realities of the people's lives - all this Tetmajer achieved through diligent observation and empathy with the psyche of the peasants. He was not only - by passion, of course - an ethnographer, but first and foremost a man ingrained in the countryside, with an excellent knowledge of the language, customs and traditions of those among whom he turned. From the fragments of observations and research he announced in print, one could assemble a monograph devoted to Bronowiczs and villages near Krakow, and yet these are only necessary studies for canvases showing the 'fabulously colorful' Polish countryside."
