[SPORT, Galicia, soccer]. Complete set of 12 color postcards depicting football players of Galician clubs as drawn by Miron Duda, 1911-1912.
Minor stains, good condition. Postcards issued by the "Stella" publishing house in Bochnia, printed at the National Printing House in Cracow. The series is numbered from 1598 to 1609. The compositions depict, in a slightly caricatured manner, silhouettes of soccer players, soccer teams, on-field and off-field scenes (e.g., post-match buffet, passage of players in automobiles). Portrayed were players of (presumably) Lechia Lwów, Czarni Lwów, Cracovia, Wisła Kraków, among others, as well as the Scottish team FC Aberdeen, which played two matches against Wisła in Kraków in May 1911, defeating it severely each time (9:1, 8:1).
"Miron Duda was born in 1893 in Nowy Sącz. At the time of the visit of the guests from the British Isles, he was a student of Class VII C at the King John III Sobieski Gymnasium III in Cracow. After passing his matriculation exam in 1912, he took up studies at the Faculty of Philosophy of the Jagiellonian University. His drawings [...] are a magnificent and essentially the only colorful representation of Galician soccer in the early 20th century" (Facebook page Before the League Was Formed). From 1913 to 1914 and 1917 to 1922 he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow under W. Weiss. He died in 1950.
