Leopold Schmutzler (Mies (Stříbo) in Bohemia 1864 - Munich 1941) - Austrian painter of genre scenes and portraitist. He began his painting studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna under Christian Grepenkel, August Eisemenger and Leopold Carl Müller. He then trained at the Munich Academy under Oskar Seitz. Active mainly in Munich, he periodically stayed in Rome, Paris and also traveled to New York. He painted mainly elegant salon scenes and portraits of beautiful women stylized in the Rococo or Empire periods, and rarely landscapes. The artist's paintings can be found in museums in Nuremberg, Budapest, in the collection of the New Pinakothek in Munich and in numerous private collections.
