oil, cardboard, dimensions 33 x 49 cm, signed p. d. "Szuman"
Ziemowit Szuman (1901-1976) is an artist educated at the Academy of Fine Arts in Poznań and the Akademie de la Grande Chaumiere in Paris. He was a student of Stanislaw Kamocki - a painter whose influence is noticeable in the depicted painting. Szuman himself, associated since 1945 with Gorzow Wielkopolski and Western Pomerania, was an undoubted leader of his artistic environment, its organizer and participant in many exhibitions and collective and individual exhibitions, both at home and abroad. The church on Pęksowy Brzyzek is known to anyone who has visited the Tatra Mountains. Built by Sebastian Gąsienica-Sobczyk in 1847, from 1948 it served the residents of the village that was Zakopane at the time. It was expanded a few years later, and today the Zakopane Cemetery of Merit extends around it - a burial place for many of the city's famous and notable residents, as well as its many famous residents from around the country. Initially dedicated to St. Clement, today it is dedicated to Our Lady of Czestochowa.
