Studied painting at the School of Fine Arts in Cracow (in the studios of Władysław Łuszczkiewicz, Leopold Loffler and Jan Matejko, Józef Unierzyński, J. Fałat, as well as in the master class under Leon Wyczółkowski). He also trained abroad: in Paris, Rome and Florence. Later, he often stayed in Paris, which was the capital of the art world at the time, and traveled to Italy and southern France many times. In 1907, he began teaching at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow, was appointed a full professor in 1913, and later served as rector three times. He belonged to the Society of Polish Artists "Sztuka" and exhibited many times with the Vienna "Secession". Weiss was also associated with Krakow's artistic bohemia, and was friends with Stanislaw Przybyszewski.
