The artist studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow from 1890 to 1899. The reward for graduating from the school-along with a gold medal-was a one-year scholarship to stay in Paris. Various poetics intertwined in the artist's paintings: realistic, expressionist and Art Nouveau-decorative. A constant feature of Weiss's work, however, was his inspiration from nature, whose deep knowledge lay at the heart of each of the works the artist painted.
