Wlastimil Hofman's paintings are full of mythological allegories and casual references to ancient gods. Hermes, pictured in the painting in the form of a child, accompanies the boy as a patron of his journey or wandering. His most recognizable attribute is a distinctive hat with wings, the so-called petasos.
